Loverboy is going to Saskatoon tomorrow to reshingle Petra’s house, then he and his son are driving to Calgary, where the university will be looking at the lad with a view to offering him a scholarship if they want him on their team after they’ve seen him play. He asked L to go along and L was thrilled, thinking his advice was wanted. Then he thought shit, he probably just wants someone to drive him there and pay for the trip!

Whatever the case — probably it’s a bit of both, and there’s nothing wrong with that — Loverboy will get a holiday out of it, a visit with his sister and nephews, and time spent with his son. It’ll do him good, and it will be better for his son if he doesn’t have to make a big decision like this by himself.

Loverboy and his dad sewed up a sling for the calf so that it is up off the barn floor. Pa’s lined up a bottle and some nipples so, instead of the gavage tube they’ve been feeding it through for the past week, it can use its sucking reflex. And guess who’s going to be doing the feeding, and often ... probably about every hour during the day. We have to get some strength back into the little guy and maybe regular feeding will do the trick.
