I learned to do psychic readings before attempting the tarot. I'd sit across from the querent, hold her hands, look into her eyes, and say whatever came into my mind.

This required quite a leap of faith, as you can imagine. But the readings were very pure and sometimes, when I really connected with someone, their face would change in front of me many times as I spoke.

I would literally see a series of other faces looking back at me.

These were sometimes the person's spiritual guides, sometimes the way the person looked in past lives. It was especially powerful when I did a reading for my closest friend, because I recognized so many of the faces I saw. We knew each other in a lot of other lifetimes.

The same person who taught me how to do psychic readings then taught me to read with the tarot cards. She cautioned me not to become reliant on them, because it is not the cards, so much as the openness and ability to articulate information, that is essential.

But I love the beauty of the cards, the way they help the querent understand what is being said, and put a picture in her mind that helps her remember the meaning.

I never do a psychic reading anymore, on its own. I have somehow combined the two.
