Drive

Thursday 4 August 2005
3:07 p.m.

Because the burning of gas pollutes the air, and because fuel is expensive, I try to combine errands so my driving is limited as much as possible. Once a week I go to the local business centre to get mail, pay bills, bank, shop and whatnot; on the weekend I go to my home town to visit Grandma and, if I'm lucky, see my sister Karen.

So today when a call came in to drive northwest about 25 kilometres and pick up the farmbeau from a hay field, I was not sorry to leave my desk here and venture out on the dusty gravel roads. It was a treat to drive past the bright yellow canola fields and the rows of round bales, and I enjoyed every moment of it.

Out "in the middle of nowhere" this miniature replica of an old country school has been parked in the ditch. I stopped for a photo; all three of these pictures were snapped from the same corner.
