Today, today, what to do today?
Oh, there are always more tomatoes to chop and freeze.
There are always dishes.
There are always cookies to bake, casseroles to make, suppers to think of.

But my cousin is at my aunt and uncle’s with her new baby and I am really tempted to take a drive over, to get a chance to see the wee one. I haven’t held a new baby for a while, so why not? That is as energizing as anything. Besides, it will get me out of the house and doing something besides the usual errands I do every week -- the recycling, the groceries, etc.

Farmbeau has been spending time with Don in the mornings before school, trying to teach him to count money and supervising him as he makes his own breakfast, and I appreciate those efforts, particularly because it’s so frustrating to teach Don anything. The kid resists terribly, because he lacks confidence in his abilities and prefers not to be challenged in case he might fail.
